On her motivation for making changes: “I’m at a point in my life, having gone through the year of health, where I think it’s really important to set examples and be healthy and eat right and work out. Rebel Wilson 2020 weight loss. It was all about that.
On how she changed: “After Rebel Wilson finished filming Pitch Perfect 2, the actress decided it was time for a change — both physically and mentally. She started with smaller decisions like getting rid of junk food in her house (a move she shared via Instagram) before working up to bigger ones like taking up boxing lessons or hiring a personal trainer.

“It was about an overall Year of Health. I did boxing, Pilates, lots of stuff with weights, and then I got a trainer. And now my diet is really clean—I don’t eat any junk food which is interesting because I normally like to go out for dinner or try different things but right now it’s about trying to be as healthy as possible.
On the benefits: “She feels great! Wilson’s efforts were mostly mental (though she still saw physical results), and helped her understand what her body needs and doesn’t need. “You feel so much better when you don’t drink alcohol or eat any sugar at all; there are no real highs or lows you get from it,” she says. “It feels like I have more energy too.”
On her family being an inspiration: “My whole family has been sick in some kind of way this year so for me to be in the best shape I can be is the motivation for them,” Wilson explained to People at the premiere of her new film, How To Be Single.” I don’t want to give myself excuses when they’re healthy and here with me every day,” she added. “You have to have great discipline if you are going to lose weight but I think that when people set their minds to something it’s amazing what you can achieve.”
“I worked hard at it but it wasn’t just that, it was also mentally eating the right food and not eating the wrong stuff,” she said. “I have a sweet tooth so if I have a piece of candy or chocolate if I have one I’m going to want 20 so being strict on yourself is really important.”
“Seeing your family members go through chemotherapy and cancer – my brother has leukemia and my other sister’s mother-in-law has ovarian cancer – that just made me realize that life is too short,” she added. “In times when you’re struggling with whatever you’re struggling with it makes you think about things for no reason whatsoever. Everything seems better when people are happy, don’t you find?”
“I’m in a really good place now with health and I just really want to stay here,” she said. “When you’re younger, it’s easy to put on weight because your metabolism is faster, but I’ve had my metabolism tested with infrared thermography and my metabolic age was 22 – that means my body is 22 even though chronologically I’m 38 so I don’t have to work really hard.”
“I think anyone can do whatever they want if they set their mind to it,” she added. “It doesn’t matter how old you are or what size you are or what race you are, you can always motivate yourself through something.”
On feeling happier: “‘It was all mental for me; I didn’t realize the power of your mind and how strong it is,’ she said. ‘I feel like I look in the mirror and see myself properly for the first time ever. I can really be who I am and not try to hide behind something. I just think that’s such a powerful thing when you do that — everything else falls into place after that.'”
On her secrets: “I used to say no [to things], but now I definitely say yes more,” Wilson told People about her newfound love of trying new foods. “This year I’ve been going out a lot more, exploring different restaurants…I always had this fear of going out because I was scared people would make fun of me if I ordered the wrong thing. But now I’m like, ‘leave it!'” I’d rather discover new things than eat what’s familiar to me all the time,” she said. On her biggest fear: “’Doing this movie made me realize that people are mean,’ she told PEOPLE of playing Alice in How to Be Alice, which hits theaters Feb. 12.”‘
We’re living in a world where there is so much bullying and social media has given everyone else an opportunity to speak out about who they don’t like,'” Wilson explained.”‘People can rip you apart on Twitter but they’ll never actually come up to your face…but still, hearing those words you doubt yourself more.'”Wilson says she thinks twice before sharing a photo on social media.”‘If I post a picture of me looking thin, people will shame me for being too skinny or having fake boobs,’
She said. ‘In the past, I used to care so much about what those people think but now I’m older and I just want to do things for myself.'”The Pitch Perfect star says she’s learned to ignore negative comments.”‘ It’s sad that other people have nothing better to do than try and bring others down, but it just makes you stronger as a person.’ “
“People always say to me ‘oh you’re doing so well,’ but they don’t see everything,” she added. “I can be upset about something and no one knows because my face doesn’t show it…I’d say [it was] about a year overall of losing weight and toning up and getting in the best shape I’ve ever been in.”
“Wilson says her exercise secret is pilates — which she does three times per week — and that it’s great for toning your body. ‘
It’s a great way to get in shape and be mentally strong,’ she said.”
On her weight struggles: “I used to have a real problem with the way I looked,” Wilson told People. “Even when I look back at photos from when I was 15, it’s like ‘Oh my God, I didn’t realize that fat roll of skin under my neck that is popping out.’ And now it looks all right! But thank you very much for saying this because previously I’m thinking about the rolls of skin on my neck or maybe my legs.'”The actress also shared some fitness tips from her workout routine.”‘I would do 30-minute sessions of Pilates. If anyone wanted to try that — just start in your living room with a little DVD, do that for about three months continuously and then just build it up.
Wilson says that she tries to eat healthy even though she can’t avoid eating junk food.”‘The first thing I say is ‘no’ to is the potato chips. So if you really want something bad eat one chip, chew it well, and imagine how nice it will be in your mouth,’ she said.
But usually by the time I’m done chewing that one chip my desire has gone down enough where I don’t crave another.'”But when at a party or other occasion where there’s junk food, Wilson points out that diet soda can help fill you up before indulging.”‘I drink Coke all night which makes me feel like I’m really eating something,’ she said.

On what inspired her: “[My family members are] dealing with cancer,” Wilson told People. “That was my #1 priority this year — taking care of them.”

Wilson said she would use his weight as a barrier. “What I found out is why I adopted these unhealthy behaviors because I was not treated with love and respect,” she said. “I just didn’t appreciate myself.” “What I’ve been trying to do is change these habits so that you are more loving and treat yourself with more respect,” he continued. “I’m working on self-esteem, and it’s a difficult concept to master.” To promote his self-esteem, Wilson practices the diary in which he writes down all of his emotions. “I like to close with gratitude and write what I am blessed for,” she said. “Even if it’s a very small thing … it’s incredible.”
